Explorer units

Explorers aged 14 to 18 join a district unit rather than a Group.

Six sections, ages 4 to 25

Young people move up as they grow. Not every Group runs every section, so ages are a guide.

  • Squirrels4–6Early adventure, close to home.
  • Beavers6–8Games, making things, first nights away.
  • Cubs8–10½Camping, cooking, badges by the sleeveful.
  • Scouts10½–14Hikes, water, fire and real responsibility.
  • Explorers14–18Expeditions, DofE and leading younger sections.
  • Network18–25Adventure on your own terms, plus a way to give back.

Volunteering, on your terms

You don't need to have been a Scout, own a tent or know a knot. You can volunteer on a flexible basis: one evening a week, one camp a term, or a few hours behind the scenes. Training is free and we pay for your checks.

  • Section volunteers, running the weekly programme.
  • Occasional helpers for camps, trips and events.
  • Trustees, treasurers and people who fix minibuses.
